Abstrakt

In agriculture new technologies enable sustainable harvesting processes. For example by
analyzing data regarding operational activities such as sowing, fertilization, tillage, mowing
or chaff cutting, the farmer can calculate the crop yield and productivity of respective fields
and crops. Based on this data next seasons farming levels can be defined considering in-field
variability. This concept known as Precision Farming can be complemented by activities for
optimizing harvesting, e.g. by defining cutting length and height for crop. The crop can then
be fertilized and cut individually to secure maximum but sustainable crop yield. Additionally,
the impacts of agriculture on the environment by over-fertilizing and/or over-harvesting can
be reduced. Thus, the efficiency and profitability of “sustainable farming” services offered by
harvesting contractors can be improved.
The described data and respective technologies such as sensors, GPS positioning and selforganized
processes are fundamental for realizing such farming services. Equally important
but even more challenging is the integration of these processes and technologies in the
harvesting contractors’ existing business model including the business processes, flexible
service portfolio and pool of resources. To realize flexibility of the service portfolio and to
integrate the service provision processes in the companies´ business processes, it is
indispensable to modularize the offered services and the respective provision processes.
Considering technological, process-related and economical constraints, rules for combination
of these modules are required. To handle the emerging complexity of a configuration system
that enables an automatic definition of the required processes and technologies for each
individual, farming service is required.
