Abstrakt
Over the last few years there have been considerable developments in optimisation of the performance of stress-laminated timber (SLT) structures by utilising the strength properties of timber in an arching action for use as pedestrian and vehicle bridges. The technique was developed in a collaborative research between Edinburgh Napier University and the UK’s Forestry Civil Engineering, Forestry Commission. The research was focused on using stress-lamination technique to utilise the UK grown small-sections of low-grade timber to form strong low cost sustainable structures. During this time several bridges of small to full-scales have been load tested in the laboratory and in the field. The research has shown that the design rules for flat SLT decks do not necessarily apply to arches which exhibit complex structural behaviour due to their geometrical configurations. The most recent developments have concentrated on modular method of construction using glued and screwed lamination techniques.Referanser
