Abstrakt
The design of the Malminmaki bridge, part of the “Tampere West Bypass, Stage II, Contract B” project along the Finnish highway VT3, began in 2007.The use of timber facilitated the construction of an aesthetically attractive bridge between conventional concrete bridges at highway VT3. The bridge is a part of a popular pedestrian and skiing route passing over the highway VT3 at Ylöjärvi, Finland. The bridge provides its users with a refreshing visual accent and conveys a strong landmark-like impression.
The design of the bridge integrated structural design, construction, and aesthetics. The task proved challenging owing to the design-build contract format, but the result can be considered fairly successful.
