Abstrakt
This paper contributes to the development of a set of critical success factors (CSFs) for ERP systemimplementation that gives specific advice to managers about how to handle an ERP system
implementation project effectively. The contribution is based on findings from a longitudinal study of
an implementation project in a Norwegian window production enterprise. Our findings show that the
overall success of the implementation project was mainly due to two critical factors: “top
management commitment” and “project management”. The actions related to these factors are
analysed in order to explain part successes and failures during the implementation process. Based on
the analysis, we argue that critical factors should be organised hierarchically. The sub-ordinate
factors should represent specific advice to managers regarding how to handle super-ordinate factors.
The paper illustrates such an organisation using the factors “top management commitment” and
“project management”. Suggestions for further research are provided.
